Dr. Hanish Sharma is an astute Clinical Gastroenterologist with special interest in hepatology, pancreatic diseases and inflammatory bowel diseases; He is a skilled endoscopist and endosonologist. Dr. Sharma is trained in basic and clinical research and is a keen enthusiast in new device biodesign.

After a meritorious schooling career at Bhilai, Dr. Sharma obtained the MBBS degree in 2005 from Pt Ravishankar Shukla University, Raipur, with honours in Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacology, Otorhinolaryngology and the University Gold Medal in Surgery. On completion of his internship he topped the PG entrance examination and did his MD in Internal Medicine from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (2008). His graduate research work was recognised and awarded. Subsequently inspired by legendary teachers, he topped and qualified for the most prestigious DM programme in Gastroenterology at AIIMS, New Delhi (2009-2012). He trained, worked and researched on emergent diseases, especially acute liver failure, acute pancreatitis, celiac disease and primary liver cancer.

After the degree, Dr. Hanish Sharma continued as a Senior Research Associate at AIIMS until 2013. Under the mentorship of legendary teachers he participated in the development of consensus guidelines for primary liver cancer (HCC) and an Asia-Pacific status report on celiac disease. During this time he was keenly involved with the Stanford India Biodesign programme, which resulted in design and development of a safer liver biopsy device and prototypes for GI bleeding and paracentesis; these have been submitted for international patents. Dr. Sharma also participated in initial testing and trials of a rectal continence device that has received FDA approval. His work was awarded at national and international conferences. He has contributed to 15 indexed publications, apart from book chapters.

Dr. Hanish Sharma is currently focused on providing one-stop services for Gastroenterology in Chhattisgarh and forming a nucleus for comprehensive advanced care in this region. Dr. Sharma is fluent in therapeutic endoscopy, ERCP and endoscopic ultrasound, with hands on appreciation of their roles and risks. The procedures he is proficient in include:

Metallic stent placement for cancer oesophagus and bile duct, pancreas.
GI bleed: oesophageal variceal ligation, clipping, managing ulcer bleeds.
Therapeutic endoscopic procedures - cystogastrostomy, necrosectomy, PEG tube placement, achalasia cardia, colonic polypectomy.
ERCP for bile duct diseases, pancreatic leaks, obstructive jaundice, cholangitis.
Endoscopic ultrasound guided procedures - fine needle aspiration cytology and biopsy.
Bariatric gastric balloon placements.
